· Winter road salt and melting agents can cause rust, making an undercarriage wash essential during cold months. · Rain carries dissolved pollutants, road dust, and mineral deposits. Rainwater is closer to a light acid wash, than a rinse cycle. When it dries on your paint, it leaves a thin layer of contaminants behind, baked in by the summer heat. In Calgary’s dry heat, that process takes under an hour.

· Bird droppings act fast. They’re acidic and can eat into your clear coat in as little as 48 hours in the summer heat. Rinse them off as soon as you spot them, even with a bottle of water if you’re not near a wash.

· Tree sap hardens quickly. It feels sticky but harmless at first. Left in the sun, it bonds to you paint and becomes nearly impossible to remove with a professional detailing treatment. Park away from trees when you can.

· UV fades more than your colour. Direct summer sun degrades the clear coat that protects your paint. A good wash removes the grime that traps heat against your surface and speeds up that breakdown.
